Autism Resources At Your Fingertips

Autism Respite
A long time ago someone important taught me to place good things into my near future.
At the time, I was working hard to make big changes in my personal life and learning how to take care of myself.
He taught me to place short term trips and fun into my calendar so that I had something to look forward to.
Plan For Fun

The Make-A-Wish foundation reports that kids who are planning and looking forward to their wish have a decrease in stress, anxiety, depression and can decrease trips to the hospital.
Excitement and anticipation of something fun creates hope
Taking care of a dependent loved one is all the time. 24/7. Of course, you want your loved one to have the best care possible. But at the same time, you do need you time.
And in case you need to hear this today. It’s not selfish to take care of yourself. We have so much more to give when we give to ourselves!
What Are Respite Services?

One of the biggest gaps parents notice in autism care is in respite services.
These services act as a bridge between the caretaker and time away:
1. Relax-Take a staycation or short getaway
2. Catch up-paperwork, phone calls, sleep
3. Connect-family, friends, yourself
Many resources exist and I’m working hard to compile a list of national and state to state resources.
This will be a continual work in progress. If you know of programs that need to be added please let me know!
